Silk Bedding Care Instructions

Silky U silk quilts with a 400TC cotton outer cover have two separate components that require different care:

• The removable cotton outer cover
• The silk-filled insert inside it

Removable cotton outer cover

Remove the cotton outer cover from the silk-filled insert before washing.

Close the zipper, turn the cover inside out and wash it separately in cold water on a gentle cycle using a mild liquid detergent.

Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Line dry in the shade and iron on low heat if required.

Make sure the cotton outer cover is completely dry before placing it back over the silk-filled insert.

Silk-filled insert

The silk-filled insert must be professionally dry cleaned only.

Do not hand wash or machine wash the insert. Do not bleach, tumble dry, wring or expose it to high temperatures.

Advise the professional cleaner that the quilt contains Mulberry silk filling and must not be cleaned using trichloroethylene.

Between professional cleans, air the insert occasionally in a dry, well-ventilated and shaded location. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

The TENCEL™ Lyocell cover is quilted directly to the silk filling and is not removable. The small zipper is provided for inspection of the filling and should not be used to remove it.

The complete quilt must be professionally dry cleaned only.

Do not hand wash, machine wash, bleach, tumble dry, wring or expose the quilt to high temperatures. Advise the professional cleaner that the quilt has a TENCEL™ Lyocell cover and Mulberry silk filling.

Air the quilt occasionally in a dry, well-ventilated and shaded location. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.We recommend using every silk quilt with a separate quilt cover to help protect it from marks, spills and everyday wear.

These instructions apply to Silky U silk fitted sheets, flat sheets, quilt covers, pillowcases and bedding sets.

Washing

Hand washing is the gentlest option. Silk bed linen can also be machine washed using the following precautions:

• Use cold water, with a maximum temperature of 30°C
• Select a short silk or delicate cycle with a gentle spin
• Wash silk separately or only with other silk items in similar colours
• Turn quilt covers and pillowcases inside out
• Close all zippers before washing
• Place each item in an appropriately sized fine mesh laundry bag
• Do not overcrowd the washing machine
• Do not soak, wring or twist silk

Detergent

Use a small amount of pH-neutral liquid detergent formulated specifically for silk.

Do not use:

• Bleach
• Fabric softener
• Enzyme or biological detergents
• Optical brighteners
• Harsh stain removers
• Concentrated detergent applied directly to the fabric

Spills and stains

Treat spills as soon as possible. Gently blot the affected area with a clean, colourfast cloth - do not rub.

For a small mark, rinse gently with cold water and a silk-safe detergent. Test any cleaning product on an inconspicuous area first. For persistent or difficult stains, consult a professional cleaner experienced with silk.

Drying

Remove silk promptly after washing and gently reshape it.

Line dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, heaters and other sources of heat.

Avoid unfinished wooden drying racks, which may transfer colour or stains to damp silk.

Do not tumble dry.

Ironing

Silk bed linen generally does not require ironing. Most creases will soften naturally after a few nights of use.

If ironing is necessary:

• Turn the item inside out
• Use the lowest silk setting
• Iron while the fabric is slightly damp
• Place a clean cloth between the iron and the silk
• Keep the iron moving and avoid prolonged heat in one area

Hand wash silk eye masks separately in cold water using a small amount of pH-neutral silk detergent.

Do not soak, scrub, wring or twist. After washing, gently press the eye mask between two clean towels to remove excess water, reshape it and lay it flat to dry in the shade.

Do not bleach, tumble dry or iron.
